Light Blue Pleated Maxi Summer Dress
Description
A pleated maxi dress in pale blue with a thin belt at the waist — full length, barely there in weight, and about as easy as a long dress gets in August. The pleating runs the whole length, so it moves as one piece rather than clinging anywhere.
Fabric & feel
85% lyocell, 15% polyester, made in Italy by Vocolo. Lyocell is the reason this works in real heat: it is a botanical fibre that breathes and releases moisture instead of holding it against the skin, and it takes a soft dye beautifully — which is why the blue reads as chalky rather than bright. The polyester holds the pleats through wear.
Fit & sizing
Cut loose from a gathered shoulder, belted at the natural waist, falling to the ankle. Without the belt it reads as a column; with it, as a waisted dress. The shoulders are wide enough to cover a bra strap. Convert Italian sizing with the fit and sizing guide.
How to wear it
Photographed with the belt and flat sandals, which is the version for daytime — lunch, a gallery, anywhere between sun and air conditioning. A pale blue like this takes silver better than gold, and it is one of the few colours that works against a tan without washing out. For evening, add a heel and a clutch. More on the dresses rail.
Care
Delicate wash, cold. Lyocell is strong when wet but the pleats are not — dry it flat rather than wringing, and let it hang once nearly dry so the folds fall back into line. No dryer. Steam rather than press; an iron will flatten the pleating permanently.
